TARA DIXON

CONNECTICUT

For over thirty years my Artist’s Statement has simply been the poem,

The Red Wheelbarrow by William Carlos Williams:

so much depends
upon

a red wheel
barrow

glazed with rain
water

beside the white
chickens

I have always thought it defines the importance of juxtaposition of textures and color. If you understand the poem you see why I create art.

My first memory of the sheer delight of making art goes back to the preschool classroom. I remember thinking I had “invented” the color pink when I smooshed red and white together. I shrieked and got chills. I took many art classes at Connecticut College but it wasn’t until I studied at The Art Students League under Bruce Dorfman that I knew I would make art my life.

Bruce taught me many things including visual harmony and how one knows when a piece is complete when it “sings.” I am grateful for all my teachers and mentors especially the late Pat Atkin and Barkley Hendricks as well as Maureen McCabe and Bruce Dorfman.

I continue to make art as a form of expression and communication. Works of mine can be found in both private and corporate collections.  Commissions are always possible and welcomed.  My outdoor  murals exist in Brooklyn, NY and Bali, Indonesia.
