THE STUDIO ARTISTS

ALEX BRUEHL has been an active artist from early childhood, from cellist, stage actor and singer, to videographer, writer and photographer. During a 12 year stint in New York he earned degrees in performance from The School for Film and Television (now NYCDA) and in Creative Writing from The New School. For the past decade his photography has upstaged all other forms, permitting him to extract stillness and detail from the ever-hastening world around him.

ERIN BUNDOCK is a mixed media artist and writer exploring themes of family, reproductive liberty, and love. Her narrative images are often moments of reflection, and her mixed media approach mirrors the complexity of interpersonal relationships at the heart of her work. She is influenced by her familial ties to scenic design and biological studies, integrating bold colors and scientific imagery. Bundock also draws inspiration from music, dance, and folklore. The piece Letter to My Mother was included in the first iteration of 'A Stitch Between', Bundock’s senior thesis show in the spring of 2020. The University of Vermont published a limited run of posters of this piece in the Spring of 2020 which were distributed to the graduating class.

TARA DIXONFor over thirty years my Artist’s Statement has simply been the poem, The Red Wheelbarrow by William Carlos Williams (so much depends upon a red wheel barrow glazed with rain water beside the white chickens). These moments are why I create art. For me, it’s all about capturing or translating these juxtapositions.

INGRID ELLISON is a painter and arts educator working in oil, mixed media and visual journals. Born in Boston, Massachusetts, Ingrid’s earliest memories of Maine were floating aboard a little sloop amidst the fog and rocks of the coastline during family vacations. Ingrid Ellison is a graduate of Skidmore College and earned her MFA from American University, and studied printmaking in Florence, Italy. Ingrid has a passion for sharing what she does with a greater community and makes connections with students both school aged and adult.

AIDAN FRASER “Exploring self acceptance through sculpting the female form, I make art out of what people are seeing in the mirror - asymmetrical bodies with stretched flesh, dimples, creases and folds. My work tempts the part of us that wants to look at what we’ve been told not to while reminding us that we can observe, experience and ponder unashamedly the relaxed human form. Using the often taboo and vulnerable human body as a vessel for open communication and connection, my art encourages a shift in people’s inner dialogues, making it easier to translate the connection they feel to the bodies they see in my work, to connection to their own bodies.”

JUSTINE LASDIN explores the variety of landscapes Maine has to offer as the core focus of her work. Her work mixes her passion for drawing and painting by using mark-making throughout the process of her work. She enjoys collecting her ideas in small studies with her sketchbook, photography, or small paintings on location. In the studio she takes that energy to her larger pieces where she incorporates her skills in color mixing alongside collage, drawing, and/or stamping.

MANDANA MACPHERSON is a graduate of Brown University, and received an MFA from Stanford University’s Joint Program in Design where she was the recipient of the Robert Mondavi Fellowship for Study in the Arts. While completing her thesis at Stanford in 2003, she co-created the first sustainable design class for the design division of Stanford’s Mechanical Engineering department and continued on as a lecturer there until moving to Maine. Her work is award-winning and has been widely exhibited. Mandana has been on the faculty at Stanford, California College of the Arts, Haystack Mountain School of Crafts, and Academy of Art University. She currently lives in Maine and travels to California annually to teach.

KELLY SUE RIOUX is a visual artist based out of South Portland, ME. She received a BFA from The Museum School of Fine Arts, Boston, and has been working in collaborative art spaces and on her own work in the Portland area since. She currently works as a hired muralist, painter and illustrator. Through her work she explores the ways we are interconnected with the natural world and each other. She creates layered mixed media paintings and prints that are heavily influenced by the ocean and its mysteries, and the ephemeral quality of our memories.

CAROLINE SULZER is a first generation American, born in New York City. She has lived and worked in Maine since 1997. She attended the Art Students League, and has a Masters degree in Comparative Literature and an MFA in poetry. She has been a resident at Vermont Studio Center and Millay Arts.
